Ligh✝ Bible Study (“the App”) is an AI-powered Bible study companion built to help followers of Jesus Christ deepen their understanding of Scripture. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App or visit lightbible.study.
By using Ligh✝, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Our Privacy Principles
We built Ligh✝ as a ministry, and we take seriously the trust you place in us when you open Scripture through this App. Our approach to your data is guided by a few core commitments:
- We only collect information we have a genuine need for.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
- We are transparent about which services process your data on our behalf.
- We store your information only as long as necessary to serve you or as required by law.
- We make it easy for you to access, correct, or delete your data at any time.
1. Information We Collect
a. Information You Provide
When you create an account, we collect:
- Your name or username
- Your email address
- A password (stored in encrypted form — we never see it in plain text)
- A profile photo (optional)
If you use the App or lightbible.study as a guest without creating an account, we do not collect your name or email address.
b. Bible Study Queries
When you use the App’s study features, the questions and Scripture references you enter are sent to AI infrastructure we use to generate responses. These queries may be temporarily processed by one or more AI service providers. We do not use your Bible study questions for marketing purposes, and they are not permanently linked to your account to build a behavioral profile.
See Section 4 for more detail on how queries are handled by our service providers.
c. Usage and Performance Data
We may collect non-personally identifiable information about how you interact with the App, such as which features you use and session duration. This helps us understand how the App is being used and improve the experience over time.
If the App encounters a technical error or crash, Apple’s platform-default crash reporting system may collect diagnostic information about the error. This data is anonymized and used solely for troubleshooting. No third-party crash reporting tools are used.
d. Scripture Viewing Data
When Scripture is displayed in the App, our Scripture data provider uses a Fair Use Management System to record anonymized usage for publisher licensing compliance. This system collects a randomly generated device identifier and a session identifier that resets each time you use the App. Neither is linked to your name, email, or account. This data exists solely to demonstrate to Bible publishers how Scripture is being accessed digitally — a requirement for maintaining access to licensed Bible translations.
e. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The App and our website (lightbible.study) may use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and understand how users navigate the App. Some of our third-party infrastructure providers also set cookies as part of their standard operation.
You may configure your browser or device to limit or reject cookies. Doing so may affect some App functionality. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Deliver AI-powered Bible study responses to your queries
- Improve the App’s features, performance, and reliability
- Send service-related communications (e.g., account confirmations and important updates)
- Respond to your support requests
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for targeted advertising. You may opt out of non-essential communications at any time by contacting us at the address in Section 11. Note that opting out of promotional messages does not affect transactional or account-related communications.
3. Guest Use
You may use limited features of Ligh✝ without creating an account. As a guest, we do not collect your name or email. Queries you submit as a guest are still processed by our AI infrastructure to generate responses. Anonymous Scripture viewing data is still collected as described in Section 1d.
4. Third-Party Service Providers
Ligh✝ relies on a small number of trusted service providers to deliver core functionality. Each provider is bound by its own privacy policy, which we link below. We are not responsible for their independent data practices, and we encourage you to review their policies.
AI Response Infrastructure — Google Gemini
Your Bible study queries are processed by Google Gemini, the AI model we use to generate study responses. Queries are routed to Gemini through AI routing infrastructure we use for technical delivery purposes. Google Gemini is the sole AI model in use — no other model providers or fallback models are configured.
When accessed via API, Google’s terms generally do not use your inputs to train their models by default. We encourage you to review Google’s current terms for the most up-to-date information.

Scripture Data — API.Bible / American Bible Society
The Scripture text displayed in the App is delivered by API.Bible, a service of the American Bible Society. As noted in Section 1d, API.Bible’s Fair Use Management System collects anonymized device and session identifiers each time Scripture is displayed in order to fulfill publisher licensing requirements.

Account and Data Infrastructure — Supabase
Supabase provides secure backend infrastructure for account management and data storage. Supabase operates as a data processor on our behalf, meaning it handles your data only under our instructions and is contractually bound to appropriate data protection standards.

5. Account Deletion
We believe you should have full control over your data. You may delete your account at any time directly within the App. To do so:
- Navigate to your Profile and scroll to the bottom of the page
- Select “Delete Account”
- Confirm your request when prompted
Your account and all associated data will be permanently deleted upon confirmation. This action cannot be undone. Where retention is required by law or for legitimate record-keeping purposes, some data may be retained for up to 30 days following deletion.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed within 30 days.
Usage and session data is retained for a limited period to support performance improvements and is not linked to your personal identity. Bible study queries are not stored long-term or used to build a profile of your beliefs or reading patterns.
7. Children’s Privacy
Ligh✝ is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Opt out of non-essential or promotional communications
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address in Section 11. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted password storage, secure data transmission, and infrastructure-level security provided by our backend provider. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of data transmitted over the internet.

10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you via email or an in-app notice. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
